SERVICE YOUR CUTTER

LET THE FACTORY DO YOUR RECONDITIONING!

Spurs® offers in house reconditioning of your line cutter system. The unit is glass bead blasted for complete cleaning, blades are re-sharpened, all worn parts replaced and are CMM (Coordinate-Measuring Machine) checked for tolerance and wear. Keep your cutter system up-to-date for prolonged optimal use and lifetime.

SPURS® LINE CUTTERS ARE FITTED WITH LONG-LIFE KEVLAR-TEFLON WEAR BEARINGS WHICH SEPARATE THE SPINNING METAL CUTTING BLADES.

The bearings are water lubricated and hydroplane on a film of water at all times while spinning. The clarity of the water in which a vessel cruises has a direct relation to the life of the wear bearing. Sediment and abrasive silt found in rivers and waterways becomes a contributor to accelerated bearing wear. Wear is negligible when running in clear lakes and deep oceans because abrasive silt is almost non-existent.

Bearing wear ultimately results in metal-to-metal contact of the spinning cutter blades, causing them to strike each other as they rotate, thereby indicating that a bearing change is required. Annual replacement more often may be necessary when cruising in an abrasive silted environment that causes premature bearing wear.

We have reports of wear ranging from 50 hours to 3,500 hours of cruising time between bearing changes, indicating a direct relation to water clarity and bearing life.

HOW DO WE PREVENT ELECTROLYSIS?

To prevent electrolysis the stationary cutter must have a zinc anode attached, as shown below.

SPURS® stationary cutter parts are electrically isolated by the bearing material and sound dampening urethane plugs; therefore, these castings must be protected by our specially designed zinc anodes. The zinc anode is fitted to the stationary cutter blade protecting it from electrolysis. We have zinc anodes for every Spurs model available at all times and they can be purchased directly or through our dealers.
